Fans of 20th century pop culture can enjoy the time capsule atmosphere of Disney's Pop Century Resort in Lake Buena Vista (Fla), just three miles from Epcot, Disney's Typhoon Lagoon and MGM Studios. This resort, within seven miles of Downtown Disney, Disney's Animal Kingdom and Magic Kingdom, turns the icons of the 1950s, -60s, -70s, -80s and -90s into exhibits, statuary and activity themes. Giant jukeboxes, 8-track tapes and cell phones surround the pools, arcade and food court, reminding guests of the fads of the past 50 years. The resort is sectioned into decades, with hit music from each decade playing in the era-designated areas. This affordable resort also features famous Disney characters, such as a Goofy water feature on a playground and giant statues of Baloo the Bear and Mowgli the jungle boy on the lawns.
The resort has three heated pools with various themes, a children's pool, an arcade and a mall-style food court. In addition there are laundry facilities on site and a 7,000 square- foot retail area. Guests receive complimentary bus transportation to and from the Walt Disney World® Theme Parks. Another advantage of this resort is the variety of recreational activities, which include tennis, parasailing, water-skiing, golf (there are five PGA- caliber golf courses within the Disney complex) and horseback riding.
Each of the 2,880 guestrooms feature décor from one of the five decades, and include dial-up Internet access and voice mail, bathrooms with separate vanity areas, and in-room safes. Refrigerators are available on request for a daily fee. Preferred guestrooms are closer to the main building and it's food court and pools, than are standard guestrooms.
Guests of Disney's Pop Culture Resort will appreciate Disney's Magic Express, the resort's airport shuttle service, which serves the Orlando International Airport 22 miles away.
