Vacationers and business travelers pick the Hotel Metropolis to experience the unique tastes that only the City by the Bay can offer. The contemporary hotel, which one reviewer called an "oasis of cool," stands one block west of the famous Powell Street cable car line at Union Square. Just out the front door are high-end shopping, theaters and fine dining synonymous with San Francisco. Guests can walk to the Moscone Convention Center, Chinatown and major museums, and theater fans are around the corner from the famous Golden Gate Theatre.
Housed in a 1930s colonial revivalist building, the Metropolis was redesigned with an inventive theme based on earth, wind, fire and water. For example, each floor of this 10-story hotel reflects each of the elements with symbolic color, design, graphics, artwork, rich fabrics and custom furniture, such as African limba wood desks and alarm clocks that emit nature sounds.
In addition to being awakened by clocks that make ape noises or thunder, guests will enjoy complimentary cappuccino, wine in the mezzanine, and meditation in the popular "Zen den." They also can surf the 'Net for free via wireless access in the library, lounge, certain guestrooms and business center or work up sweats in the complimentary fitness room and on the 10th-floor roof deck. Their rooms come complete with refrigerators, data ports, video-game consoles and movies.
The Hotel Metropolis is a pretty unique place, definitely an oasis of cool.
