Aiming to provide up-market accommodation for backpackers and budget conscious young (and not so young) travelers, Gilligan's offers a great location, diverse on-site recreational facilities, and little extras for added comfort. This relatively new facility offers 500 beds in 120 rooms, on four different levels. Located in the very heart of Cairns, Gilligan's is situated between Sheridan & Grafton streets, in the midst of Cairns' Central Business District. This central location is a short walk to the Esplanade, Lagoon, Reef boat Terminals and marina as well as nightclubs, bars and restaurants. There is easy access to airport, train, bus and local tour departure points. Gilligan's is also an ideal base from which to explore the beautiful Far North.
The hostel accommodations consist of 4- bedded and 6-bedded rooms. Air-conditioning, ensuite bathrooms and single beds are standard in every room, and most rooms have balconies. The ensuites can be used three ways (doors separating the shower, toilet and vanity) so there's none of the difficulties regularly experienced with too few communal facilities. Communal lounge rooms and kitchens are on each accommodation level. The resort's facilities are substantial. A tour Desk and Internet Café, 24-hour reception, an open-air beer hall, a mezzanine bar with a 24-hour license, beach volleyball courts, Spa and massage area, gaming area, guest laundry facilities, and a resort-style swimming pool with a waterfall. There is even a half-sized soccer field, and a barbecue area. Guests will also appreciate direct access to the adjacent shopping malls.
